Here's what you need to know about today's weather:

  • Conditions will remain hot and humid for rest of day
  • Showers and storms possible, some could be heavy
  • Rain should diminish tonight

Our Sunday has started out very similar to what we had on Saturday.  Quiet conditions, lots of sunshine, and temperatures warming quickly.  Already by lunchtime, we had temperatures in the 90s and heat index numbers over 100 degrees.

We will stay hot and humid the remainder of our Sunday, but showers and a few storms will be possible through early this evening.  The east coast sea breeze has already sparked some rain that will track inland.  A few storms with heavy rain and gusty wind will be possible.

Most of the rain will diminish early tonight.  Partly cloudy skies will follow through the overnight hours with warm low temperatures in the middle 70s.

We’ll see lots of sunshine early on Monday and temperatures will once again climb into the middle to low 90s.  While the overall chance is small, there will be the potential for showers and storms during the afternoon.  Rain chances will start to pick back up as we head toward mid-week with an approaching front.  Depending on how far this front moves south, next weekend we could see cooler and drier conditions.

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Danny continues to weaken as it heads toward the Leeward Islands. Tropical storm watches have been issued for Puerto Rico, but the track has Danny dropping to a depression before reaching the Greater Antilles. This storm is expected to completely dissipate before moving back into the Atlantic close to the Bahamas.

Invest 97 near Bermuda is no longer a concern for development, but we’re keeping an eye on Invest 98 out in the Atlantic. This cluster of thunderstorms is following Danny’s path and has a high potential for tropical development. If it does, it will be named Erika.

Behind Invest 98, another tropical wave has a chance for development in the next five days.
