Cocoa Beach has been reopened after officials shut it down for the second day in a row due to shark activity.

Officials posted double-red flags throughout the beach on Sunday, warning beachgoers that the water was closed for swimming.

The beach was reopened shortly before 1 p.m. Purple flags have been posted at lifeguard stands warning beachgoers about the presence of dangerous marine life.

This was the second day in a row the beach has been closed due to shark activity. Brevard County Ocean Rescue said swimmers were ordered out of the water Saturday morning after sharks were spotted near the Cocoa Beach Pier.

About 30 minutes later, everyone was allowed back in the water.

However, a young boy was bitten near the pier around 7:45 p.m. Crews bandaged the boy's wound on site, and he was not taken to a hospital.

Shark experts suggest beachgoers stay out of the water when it's dark, as that's when they say sharks are most active.
