Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather for Monday and the week ahead:

  • 60% chance for afternoon showers, storms
  • Heat index values in the 100s; rain chances taper toward the end of the week
  • The tropics remain quiet at this time

Storms will lose intensity following sunset. Lows will fall to the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies. Hot days and stormy afternoons will persist again Tuesday and Wednesday with south winds continuing to send in high amounts of moisture. Rain chances will gradually lower as the week progresses.

Winds shifting to the east by midweek will send in slightly drier air, keeping the coverage of afternoon storms to a minimum. As a result, rain chances will be less than 30 percent from Thursday through the weekend. Highs will consistently reach the low- to mid-90s.

In the tropics, no areas of development are expected for at least the next five days.
