Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather for the upcoming weekend:

  • Rain chances at 50% for Saturday, Sunday
  • Torrential rain will continue to be a threat
  • The tropics remain quiet at this time

August Begins!

A few isolated showers are possible overnight, otherwise, we will have a partly cloudy sky with temperatures in the mid- 70s.

Our southwest flow pattern continues, although we may be seeing signs of a slight change for the weekend. As a stationary front slips into the panhandle, an impulse is set to ride along it into Georgia. Winds are forecast to turn a little more from the south, which would send moisture streaming up the middle of the state. After days of being suppressed, the east coast sea breeze may be able to develop and slide inland.

Eventually the west coast sea breeze is expected to work its way toward the east coast breeze, and storms will fire up. Coverage is forecast to drop over the past several days, and we’re forecasting a 50 percent chances of storms Saturday through Sunday. Storms will develop by late morning/midday, then wrap up before sunset. Our sky will clear out the next few overnights, and temperatures are set to slip into the low to mid-70s. Highs this weekend stay just below 90.

High pressure is expected to build back over the peninsula by next Tuesday or Wednesday, allowing both sea breezes to move during the day once again. We’ll get back into our more typical mid to late afternoon shower and storm chance, wrapping up by 9 or 10 p.m. each night. With rain chances at 40 percent most of the week, more sunshine will allow temperatures to jump back to seasonable levels in the lower 90s, with overnight lows in the mid-70s.

Things are quieting down quickly in the tropics. Invest-94 is running into dryer air and stronger winds aloft, and is only running a 10 percent chance of gaining tropical characteristics over the next 5 days. We actually expect it to fall apart over the weekend.
