Here's what you need to know for Central Florida's weather for the Fourth of July weekend:

  • 50% chance of showers and storms Saturday on the 4th of July
  • Storms push toward the east coast Saturday and Sunday evening
  • Storms moving east Sunday night could impact Coke Zero 400 at Daytona

Independence Day will start with some sunshine, but clouds and rain chances will increase for Saturday afternoon and evening. High pressure has been slower to move back over the Peninsula, thus keeping Central Florida in a west to southwest flow.

This will tend to favor storms firing up during the early afternoon, pushing toward the east coast into the evening both Saturday and Sunday. This could impact Sunday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.

Right now, we'll keep this pattern into Monday before we finally bring high pressure back over us and turn to more of an onshore flow.

Storms that do develop over the next few days could be on the strong side. Frequent lightning, torrential rain, damaging wind gusts and tiny hail will be possible. Highs this weekend will top the lower 90s, with lows in the mid-70s.

The Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet, with a few small waves of energy. Nothing tropical is expected to develop over the next five days.
