A Seminole County teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student is fighting for his job.

Former Oviedo High School Baseball Coach Harold Hitt went before the school board Tuesday night, asking to keep his job as a physical education teacher there.

He resigned his position as coach back in May, just three weeks after leading his team to a state championship.

School administrators said Hitt carried on an inappropriate relationship with a female student at the high school for more than a year, sending dozens of Facebook messages to her.

A school district investigation concluded Hitt violated district codes of conduct, and Tuesday night, the school board voted unanimously to suspend Hitt without pay from his teaching job.

But Hitt told the school board he did nothing wrong.

“I ask you today that you return me to the profession I have dedicated my life to, and allow me to remain in my position as a Seminole County educator,” Hitt said.

The superintendent has recommended Hitt be terminated, something the school board could approve at their next meeting in August.
