A towing crew made a shocking discovery when workers found a 10-month-old baby girl inside an SUV they repossessed in west Orlando.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the infant is safe, but the man who left her in the vehicle could face serious charges.

The tow truck had been following Donielle Rivers all day to repossess his girlfriend's SUV, and did so around 2:45 p.m. Monday after Rivers, 28, went inside his house in Pine Hills.

The tow truck brought the vehicle back to Diamond Auto Sales, on West Colonial Drive, not realizing until it got back to the lot that a baby was asleep in the backseat. Workers immediately called 911, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said Rivers saw the vehicle get repossessed and followed it here to the car lot.

According to investigators, Rivers had some suspensions on his license, but still drove around with the child.

"During the several stops this man made today, at no time did they ever see him take the infant out of the car, so he did this multiple times," said Lt. Paul Hopkins, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "The car was in a bad neighborhood, the vehicle running; the car was unlocked."

The child was given back to Rivers, but the Sheriff's Office said it notified the Florida Department of Children and Families and filed paperwork with the State Attorney's Office to see if they wanted to charge him with child abuse for leaving the baby unattended in the vehicle.
