Heavy rain drenched parts of Central Florida on Friday afternoon, including downtown Orlando, ahead of a wet weekend forecast. Here's what you need to know:

  • Scattered to widespread afternoon rain
  • Thunderstorms could potentially be strong
  • Monitoring an area of low pressure in the tropics

We've finally shaken the pattern we've been stuck in for over a week, but our forecast over the next few days looks even wetter. A front dropping into northern Florida overnight will stall out between Jacksonville and Orlando on Saturday, keeping moisture flowing into the area.

As was the case Friday morning, we may wake up with some early morning showers and storms, with chances increasing by mid-morning into the early evening hours. With so much moisture in the air, rain could be locally heavy at times, and minor flooding is expected in areas prone to it. Clouds and showers will keep highs in the upper 80s.

There won't be much change heading into Sunday, with the front still stalled. We're forecasting rain chances at 70 percent, with locally heavy downpours possible. Highs will remain either side of 90.

Although we slip back to a 60 percent chance of showers and storms Monday, it still looks pretty soggy with highs near 90.

Our typical Central Florida summer pattern sticks around next week, with a 50 percent chance of rain each day, and seasonable highs in the lower 90s.

All is quiet in the tropics for now, with no tropical development expected this weekend.
