Sara Purdy, a Palm Coast-based photographer, was out at Hammock Beach on Thursday morning for a family photo shoot.

Instead of capturing candid family photos, though, she came across a shark that washed up along the shoreline. Hammock Beach is about 10 miles north of Flagler Beach.

Purdy said the shark, which she believes was a bonnethead, was about 2 feet long.

"I was shooting family photos for a family visiting the resort from Illinois," Purdy said. "We came across it as we were heading down to the water to start our shoot."

Purdy said the shark was already dead when they found it.

Last week, a 14-year-old fisherman caught a 7-foot-long nurse shark just south of the Flagler Beach Pier.
