A busy intersection near Melbourne International Airport was closed to traffic for several hours Wednesday morning as crews repaired a water main break.

The break happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Hibiscus Boulevard, which is south of Melbourne International Airport.

Crews used heavy equipment to dig down and pump water out of the area as they worked throughout the night and early Wednesday to repair the break.

A large hole was created in the roadway as a result of the work.

Workers at the scene said a 12-inch pipe had to be fitted.
