School may be out, but children in Marion County can learn some important lessons this summer.

The Safe Kids Coalition of Marion County feels it’s just as important for parents to learn CPR as it is for their kids to learn to swim.

Parents interested in free swimming lessons for their kids, age three and up, are required to attend a CPR and water safety class on June 23rd or 24th.

Once that’s done their kids are eligible for 8 session classes beginning either July 6th at the Hampton Aquatic Center or July 21st at Jervey Gantt.

The agency’s health education program manager said the lessons are especially important because over the past decade Florida has had more children drown than any other state.

Lessons will take place July 6 to 29 at the Hampton Aquatic Center, and July 21 to August 13 at the Jervey Gantt Aquatic Center.
