A judge has denied bond for the man charged in the death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old son in Cocoa.

Nathaniel Dotson, 20, is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated battery in the death of 1-year-old Zamir. He turned himself in to authorities Friday night.

On Saturday, he faced a judge for the first time. Shackled and represented by an attorney, Dotson said very little as he heard the three charges his now faces.

"He has an arrest warrant," Judge Lisa Davidson said. "Bond set at first degree felony murder with no bond, aggravated child abuse, no bond,  and aggravated battery $25,000."

Investigators said Dotson was babysitting Zamir when the baby became unresponsive on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency crews arrived at the apartment on North Fiske Boulevard in Cocoa and took the child to Wuesthoff Medical Center in Rockledge.

From there, he was taken to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando. The next day young Zamir was declared brain dead and not expected to survive. He died Thursday. His mother allowed his organs to be donated.

But as the investigation moved forward, police determined Zamir died from brain hemorrhaging caused by a skull fracture. That prompted police to initially file aggravated child abuse charges against Dotson.

On Friday, a warrant was issued for Dotson's arrest.

Dotson will be arraigned at his next court appearance on June 30.
