Here's what you need to know about Central Florida's weather for the rest of your holiday weekend:
- 30% chance of stray showers all Memorial Day weekend long
- Scattered storms Friday bring risk of heavy rain, gusty winds, lightning and hail
- Highs in lower 90s inland, slightly cooler on the coast
Memorial Day weekend typically marks the unofficial start of summer, but we've certainly already been feeling like it the past few weeks and months.
Isolated showers may dot coastal areas of Flagler, Volusia and Brevard County before sunrise, as the east coast sea breeze begins developing. Northeast to east winds are set to pick up a bit Saturday, and be rather gusty at times all weekend.
As the east coast sea crosses the state early in the day and interacts with the west coast sea breeze, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to fire up.
Although we have a 30% thunderstorm coverage across most of central Florida tomorrow through Memorial Day, the best chances for more coverage and storm strength are forecast to stay out along and west of Interstate 75. High temperatures through our extended forecast will remain around 90 degrees, with overnight lows in the lower 70s. Rain chances lower to 20% from Tuesday through next Thursday.
If you’re planning a trip to the beach, breezy conditions will make the water rather choppy, and keep the rip current threat elevated. Grab the sunscreen! The ultra-violet index will be very high on Saturday and Sunday, then push into the extreme category by Monday. Boaters, Exercise Caution statements are likely from Saturday night through Memorial Day.
