In an effort to raise funds for a local charity, two officers with the Kissimmee Police Department made a serious bet.

If they were able to raise more than $1,500 dollars, then the Captain would shave off his mustache and the Lieutenant would shave off his eyebrows.

With that encouragement, the money came pouring in.

They were able to raise enough funds Friday to support their mission trip to Honduras and the local charity Open Door Ministries. It was a big deal for Captain Warren Shepherd, who has had his mustache since the 80's and hasn't changed it until today.

Captain Shepherd wasn’t alone. Lieutenant Ralph Herrera was the one raising the funds for the mission trip and he vowed to shave his eyebrows off, if they raised enough money.

Lt. Ralph Herrera eyes his barber, who shaved his eyebrows off.

“This was all in the spirit of fun, but it really was in the spirit of giving and being able to help others. The money raised from this is going to help a lot of people,” Lt. Herrera said.

The officers bravely said goodbye to their facial hair today as a crowd of fellow law enforcement agents cheered them on.

More than $1,500 dollars of the funds raised will go towards Open Door Ministries and their upcoming mission to Honduras. Every year Lieutenant Herrera goes to Honduras on the mission trip where the group assists the orphanage and the school they helped build.

While this year seemed like a success, the two officers said they probably won't be shaving again next year because their wives might have something to say about their new appearances. However, they said they'll be looking for new volunteers next year.
