After the tragic death of a Duke Energy employee late last year in Marion County, representatives from Florida Duke Energy and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have finally reached a settlement.

Following the death of Duke Energy electrician apprentice Christopher Lee Dasher on October 14, 2014, the company’s representatives have agreed to pay $35,000 in fines to OSHA. The settlement also involves abiding by OSHA rules and safety guidelines.

Dasher was testing some equipment at a substation in Reddick when he came into contact with a test line. Dasher was shocked with 10,000 volts of electricity.

An OSHA investigation revealed that Duke Energy was responsible for one willful and four safety violations.

“The conditions of the agreement, including the corrective actions we continue to implement, will help to ensure the health and safety of all of our employees and contractor teammates,” a Duke Energy spokesman said in an email.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Chris Dasher’s family and friends.”
