The city of Melbourne continues to tackle run-down properties by taking down unsafe homes and buildings.

The fancy word is "blight," or neighborhood areas that are in need of repair or demolishing.

Case in point, a home on the 800 block of Line Street, built in 1940.

This week, using a $5,800 Community Development Block grant, workers demolished the house.

Neighbors had reported illegal activity taking place in and around the vacant structure.

So, with the homeowner's permission, the house was taken down.

The city said it is always applying for more grants to clean up similar properties throughout Melbourne. Two other homes were demolished last year.
