Police said a 1-year-old boy found unresponsive in Cocoa is now dead.

Officers responded to an apartment on North Fiske Boulevard, south of Dixon Boulevard, around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The toddler, named Zamir, was taken in critical condition to Wuesthoff Medical Center, in Rockledge. From there, he was transported to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando.

It was not immediately clear what caused the child to become unresponsive.

Police said the boy was home with his mother's boyfriend. Both the mom and her boyfriend were cooperating with the investigation, police added.

The boy's organs will be donated.
