A Palm Coast man was arrested Wednesday after he beat up his 72-year-old grandmother and threatened to kill her, deputies said.

The investigation began when Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to Florida Hospital Flagler in reference to a domestic disturbance.

The woman told deputies she obtained a temporary injunction against her grandson, 25-year-old David Harris, earlier in the day.

Harris was living with the woman. She told deputies about an encounter with Harris after he was serviced the injunction.

The investigation revealed Harris entered his grandmother's home and attacked her by grabbing her arms and the back of her neck, deputies said.

"The victim said she repeatedly attempted to get away from Harris, but he threw her to the ground and put her hands behind her back," according to a report. "In addition, Harris took the telephone away from the victim and broke it, which prevented her from calling for help."

Deputies said Harris then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to kill his grandmother.

The woman said she feared for her life and told Harris she was in "excruciating pain." Deputies said she was able to convince Harris to let her go to the hospital.

Deputies later met with the woman at her home and located Harris hiding in a bedroom closet.

He was arrested and charged with violation of an injunction, burglary, battery on a person over 65, aggravated assault, tampering with a witness and false imprisonment.

Harris was booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where he remained Friday morning without bond. Harris has repeatedly been arrested in Flagler County, according to jail records.

"This act of domestic violence is difficult to comprehend, and I commend the victim for her bravery," Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre said in a statement.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office's Victim Services Unit is available to residents and provides emotional support to victims, witnesses and their families.
