Red light cameras aren't completely gone in Palm Coast, but motorists won't find as many turned on and snapping pictures anymore.

After months of negotiations, the city of Palm Coast has powered down 38 of the 43 red light cameras that monitor the majority of the city's intersections.

American Traffic Solutions, the company that maintained and monitored the city's red light cameras, signed an amended agreement with the city late last month. The agreement reduced the number of cameras to just five — ending the contract with the city a couple of years early.

While five cameras remain operational, two of them are out of service because of construction to make Palm Coast Parkway six lanes near the I-95 overpass.

Those two cameras will be turned on when the construction is completed, officials said.

The 38 cameras that are no longer active will be removed, but no timetable has been set yet.
