Flagler County parents who are making summer vacation plans almost got a scare at the latest school board meeting Tuesday.

Back in February, the board voted to start the next school year August 24, even though that start date puts the end of the first semester after the long winter break.

Governor Scott just signed a bill allowing districts to push the start date back to August 10, which is what many on the board originally wanted. Board chairperson Colleen Conklin proposed doing just that on Tuesday.

However, the three board members who voted for the August 24 date would need to approve revisiting the calendar, something they decided against doing since parents and the district itself have already begun planning summer events.

Board members vowed to begin work on the 2016 calendar, with an earlier start date as soon as the state releases dates for state testing.
