Final plans for the Osceola County Parkway extension are in the works.

In June 2014 we reported hundreds of people received letters notifying them the expressway might be going through their property, and they might need to move.

While those plans have been put on the back burner, a final route is about to be discussed.

It would connect to State Road 417 at Boggy Creek Road. Although there are fewer homeowners affected, at least 11 families may have their homes demolished for the new road.

The Lopez family is one those who received a notice saying their home is right along the proposed route.

"When I got the letter I was very upset. I was crying because I put so much into this land," Rafael Lopez said.

After getting this letter in the mail the Lopez family realized their home, the one they built with their own hands, could fall under eminent domain. If the expressway authority exercises eminent domain they would lose their home.

"They are taking my life from me now. It's no good," Lopez said.

The Lopez home isn't the only one that could be affected. Along Boggy Creek there are 10 other families who received notices that their home might be at risk.

"It's not fair. It's not fair to me, and I can say that because I've lived here all my life," said Adela Lopez.

The extension is designed to alleviate traffic problems throughout Osceola County, but Adela Lopez said it's causing problems for the neighborhood.

"For the people left behind there is no progress for them. It just complicates the issue a bit more," Lopez said.

Osceola County Expressway Authority board member Atlee Mercer said this is the best route, claiming it doesn’t impact as many homes as other plans. Mercer said they will work with homeowners on a fair price.

"If you are going to do it-- do it right. Don't push me to do it the way you want to do it," Lopez said.
