A priceless piece of history, stolen from a home in a series of break-ins in Palm Bay last month, has been returned to a Brevard County family.

A young boy playing in a vacant lot on Underhill Avenue in Palm Bay, found a Purple Heart medal in a pillowcase and turned it over to police.

That Purple Heart belonged to Carol Lizotte's grandfather, who received the medal in World War II.

“I started shaking uncontrollably and crying because it was all my stuff,” said Carol Lizotte.

In addition to the heart, many jewelry items were also stolen, including items from Carol’s daughter who died in 1996 at the age of 6 years old.

“It’s just stuff that someone from the outside looking in might think is junk, but for us it’s priceless,” said Lizotte.

The home was burglarized back in February, one of three in the area that was broken into. Lizotte’s wedding ring also was taken during the daytime burglary.

Lizotte has a message for the young boy fwho found the pillowcase and turned it in to police.

“I don’t know his name, I don’t know who he is. I just know he was playing in the empty lot and I would love to find out who he is, because to me he’s an angel,” Lizotte said.
