Deputies in Marion County are searching for suspects after a man was found shot to death early Wednesday morning.
The sheriff’s office said around 1 a.m. someone called to report a shooting at a home in the 8800 block of Southeast 88th Place.
Deputies arrived to find 30-year-old Robert Wilson in his bedroom, dead from gunshot wounds.
“I don’t have my baby no more, he’s gone,” his mother said outside the home.
The woman, who we are not identifying for her safety, was asleep with her granddaughter when she awoke to terror.
“I seen someone open my bedroom door and shoot four shots at me and my granddaughter,” she said.
The grandmother said she went after the home invaders.
“I come down the hallway and went after them with a broom because I couldn’t find anything else,” Wilson's mother said.
She said they jumped through a closed window to get away, shattering the glass.
But it’s her family’s lives who have been shattered.
“Now I have to bury my son and his children have to live with the fact some cowards took their daddy’s life and their daddy will never be here," she said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation, but said it appears the shooting might have been a result of a botched robbery.
Wilson's mother said he was a fun-loving son who could always make her laugh.
A vigil has been planned for Wednesday night at Dr B's Bar in Ocala to remember Wilson and help raise money for his children.
