A semi truck ended up crashing and overturning on I-75 in Sumter County after investigators said the driver swerved to avoid another driver who may have been texting behind the wheel.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Richard Brook, 46, was driving his truck southbound on I-75, when a car identified as an older-model Saturn began to move into the truck's lane near Exit 309 in Webster, just east of Florida National Cemetery.

Brooks swerved onto the shoulder of the interstate to avoid colliding with the Saturn, but the truck ended up jackknifing, hitting the guardrail and overturning onto the passenger side.

Brooks was not hurt, and the Saturn was not hit in the crash.

The crash blocked southbound traffic on I-75 for more than 3 hours, troopers said.

According to the FHP report, Brooks said he saw the driver of the Saturn either texting or talking on a phone. Brooks said he could see the phone lit up inside the car during the still-dark morning hours when the crash happened.
