Flagler County Undersheriff Rick Staly announced Tuesday that he will retire from the agency April 17, according to a news release.

Staly joined the Flagler County Sheriff's Office in January 2013 and has been a sworn law enforcement officer in Florida for 40 years.

Staly began his law enforcement career in 1975 as a municipal police officer in Oviedo and then later in Altamonte Springs.

After several years of municipal service, Staly accepted a position with the Orange County Sheriff's Office as a deputy. He was promoted through the ranks and ultimately served as undersheriff before retiring from Orange County in 2001.

After his retirement, Staly remains a fully certified Florida reserve deputy with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and entered into private security management.

In 2008, Staly started his own private security company, which was later sold to a national security company in 2012.

"I would like to thank (Sheriff Jim Manfre) for affording me with the opportunity to work with the many professional men and women of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office," Staly said in a statement. "It has been an experience that I have truly enjoyed and will mess — especially my Friday night patrols."
