A Seminole County man believes he’s the victim of a hate crime and his SUV bears several racial slurs to prove his assertion.

Mutema Kudakwashe said he has lived on Serenity Place in the Osprey Landing subdivision for the past 16 years.  He said he never had any problems until Monday night.

“I came home about quarter to nine, parked the car on the cul-de-sac and came inside,” Kudakwashe said.

But when he went back outside less than two hours later, his front signal light was broken and his SUV was covered with hand painted racial slurs, including the "N-word."

Deputies with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office were called to the home around 11p.m. Monday, which is located about a half mile from Lake Mary High School.

“The person, whoever did it, had lots of time on their hands and really meant to send a message because as you can see, it’s written on every single window,” Kudakwashe said.

Meanwhile, the graphic images written on Kudakwashe’s truck are spreading far and wide across social media.

We first learned about this incident on Tuesday morning on social media from someone in Sweden.

Kudakwashe said he didn’t immediately wash the racial slurs off on purpose, leaving the vehicle “on display” as a learning lesson.

“I said well I’m going to leave it on a little longer until everyone sees it and probably use it as a learning lesson to know that the neighborhood is subject to this type of stuff and maybe be aware, be more alert on the lookout,” Kudakwashe explained.

“It makes a big difference when you see it yourself and the other issue is the neighbors. The neighborhood they can see this, it will have a direct impact on them as this is our neighborhood. This is not what we’re used to, so this such a hate crime that we better become aware that this type of stuff can be here,” Kudakwashe continued.

Ironically, one of the racial slurs, which begins with "C," was foreign to the 65-year-old man, who is originally from Guyana in the West Indies. He said he’s familiar enough with some of the other phrases to believe this is a hate crime.

Right now, deputies will only say they’re investigating the incident as criminal mischief because of minor property damage.
