A 2-year-old Sumter County boy was killed Sunday night after he was hit by an ATV during an illegal race.

It happened around 6:42 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 235 and Northeast 6th Boulevard in Wildwood.

At first, witnesses told Florida Highway Patrol troopers said 2-year-old Jakhyrian Graham, of Wildwood, ran into the road, causing the ATV's driver to swerve. The toddler and 56-year-old Johnny Williams, of Ocala, were hit, along with several other spectators.

Graham was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he later died.

The ATV's driver, 28-year-old Terry Killings Jr., and Williams were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

By daylight Monday, the story about the toddler running into the road didn't add up to troopers, who said they learned riders have been holding unsanctioned ATV races for weeks.

Investigators said Killings was racing what's believed to be a purple ATV when he lost control, hitting the boy and others. Those victims' names have not yet been released.

Several people were spotted near the crash site Monday. However, none would say whether they were aware of the illegal races.

Troopers are still looking for the ATV they said Killings was driving, along with the person he's believed to be racing at the time.
