The two survivors of a home invasion that led to the murder of Alex Zaldivar took the stand Thursday against Emmanuel Wallace, one of the suspects accused in Zaldivar's death. Zaldivar was set to be a witness in an Orange County home invasion trial.

Wallace is facing first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and burglary charges.

Siblings Remington Campos and Brienna Campos were both shot during the home invasion in 2012.

Remington talked about watching Alex Zaldivar die.

“Alex after the first shot started breathing heavily, and the second shot ended his breathing,” Remington said. It was just moments later he himself was shot in the head.

“My eyes just started rocking back and forth, I was going in and out of consciousness, I was just trying to figure out if I was going to die or not,” Campos said.

Wallace was one of three men accused of breaking into Zaldivar’s home, shooting him and the Campos siblings execution-style.

Prosecutors said the motive behind the shootings was to silence Zaldivar and Brienna, who were supposed to testify as witnesses in another home invasion involving Bessman Okafor, where Wallace was also a suspect.

Brienna told jurors after being shot in the head she held her breath for 5 minutes so the attackers would think she was dead.

Also testifying: a friend of Wallace's who said very little, a neighbor who called 911 and a detective who responded to the scene.

Wallace is the second person to go on trial for Zaldivar's murder. Donnell Godfrey was convicted last year and is serving a life sentence.

Attorneys for Wallace said he was babysitting during the shooting.

Okafor, the accused mastermind, is serving a life sentence for the home invasion that led up to Zaldivar's murder.

Testimony will continue Friday and the judge said he expects the trial to last through next week.
