The Orlando Police Department is on the hunt for new officers.

A new recruitment campaign is encouraging minorities, women and former military personnel to apply.

Wednesday’s event allowed potential recruits to talk with officers and get a firsthand look at equipment used by the force.

They also got the chance to investigate the many different jobs available at the department from crime scene investigation to SWAT.

Chief John Mina said it is a tough process, but very rewarding for those who make it.

“Just to give you an idea, we had about 7,000 applicants for police officer and only 48 of those 7,000 were hired to become Orlando police officers,” Mina said.
