The Brevard Zoo is celebrating the birth of a Klipspringer African antelope.

The male calf was born on the exhibit in Exhibition Africa around 12:30 pm on Feb. 15.

The zoo says keepers were able to get the parents, Vera and Marley, into the barn and then scooped the newborn up in a towel and reunited him with his mom and dad in the barn.

The zoo says he weighs 1.98 lbs.

Zoo officials say It will be a few weeks before the newborn and his parents will be back on Exhibition Africa because Klipspringer calves normally stay tucked in one hiding spot for a couple of months.

Until then his sister Oreo, born on July 15, 2014 will be representing the Klipspringer on Exhibition Africa.

The Brevard Zoo says Klipspringers occupy steep, rocky terrain on the savannahs of eastern and southern Africa living in monogamous pairs that stay in the same territory and fiercely defend it.  Klipspringers stand on the very tips of their hooves and have very strong back legs, which allow them to jump and run up very steep walls.
