Opening statements are underway in the murder trial of Emmanuel Wallace, one of the suspects accused in the death of a 19-year-old man, who was set to be a witness in an Orange County home invasion trial.

Wallace is facing first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and burglary charges.

Prosecutors took about an hour Wednesday to lay out their case against Wallace after choosing a 12-member jury to hear the case.

Wallace was one of three men accused of breaking into Alex Zaldivar’s home, shooting him and his two roommates execution-style.

Brienna and Remington Campos survived the shooting and will face Wallace this week.

Prosecutors said the motive behind the shootings was to silence Zaldivar and Brienna, who were supposed to testify as witnesses in another home invasion involving Bessman Okafor, where Wallace was also a suspect.

The defense will give its opening statements when court resumes Thursday.

Wallace is the second person to go on trial for Zaldivar's murder. Donnell Godfrey was convicted last year and is serving a life sentence.

Okafor, the accused mastermind, is serving a life sentence for the home invasion that led up to Zaldivar's murder.
