A Marion County man was arrested Monday on a handful of charges after he pointed a loaded handgun at a deputy after he was found unresponsive inside his vehicle at a traffic stop, deputies said.

Chandler Neal, 23, was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, driving under the influence, possession of a concealed weapon, unlawful display of a weapon, possession of a weapon under the influence, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and resisting arrest with violence.

Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies responded around 6 p.m. to the area of 5800 N.E. 7th St. in regard to a reckless driver.

A responding deputy observed a black four-door sedan blocking an intersection. The deputy approached the driver, later identified as Neal, who was unresponsive.

The deputy was able to wake Neal up and have him verbally respond to questions. Neal then pulled out a .40-caliber pistol and pointed it at the deputy, a report states. The deputy grabbed Neal's weapon and disarmed the man.

Neal failed field sobriety tests and blew a .220 and .232 block alcohol content, nearly three times the legal limit.

Neal was booked into the Marion County Jail on $13,000 bond. He remained in jail Wednesday morning, according to jail records.
