Whether you want it or not, more delays are coming because of the I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project.

An official groundbreaking was held Tuesday afternoon at the Maitland Boulevard exit.

In attendance was Gov. Rick Scott, who called the project one of the biggest in the country.

The groundbreaking was held in Maitland because the interchange is going to be one of the biggest improvements, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The $2.3 billion project spans 21 miles, extending from Kirkman Road in Orange County east to State Road 434 in Seminole County.

Two new tolled express lanes will be added in each direction, along with new bridges and interchanges.

Scott said it’s money well spent and will improve the quality of life in Central Florida.

"We are going to get more people living here in this area,” Scott said. “We had record tourism as we announced yesterday 97 million people and a lot of tourists come through this part of the state."

The project will also bring approximately 2,000 jobs to the area, Scott said.

FDOT officials said it will not affect commute times until June.
