Dozens of families started December with big repair bills because their vehicles were found vandalized in a Kissimmee neighborhood early Tuesday.

Almost 20 residents at Polo Run Apartments on North Central Avenue in Kissimmee found broken car windows, damaged parts and stolen property.

According to some who live at the apartment complex, this isn’t new. Every week, there’s another incident, they say.

This time, at least 17 vehicles were broken into. Authorities say the burglar or burglars managed to walk away with cash, jewelry and valuables.

“We’re just starting Christmas. I don’t feel safe," said Marangelis Bernard, whose vehicle was vandalized. "We should have more police coming around.”

Kissimmee Police Department is investigating the case, and detectives are urging people to be careful and not to leave valuables in the vehicles, especially not in plain sight.

Residents want the apartment complex to add more security cameras or have a gate installed around the residential community.

“I see that this apartment complex doesn’t take matters into their own hands when it comes to safety,” said Edgar Diaz, who lives at Polo Run Apartments. “This isn’t the first time this happened, so the residents out here and I are asking for more security.”

Management at Polo Run Apartments declined to comment.
