A 44-year-old Ormond Beach man faces attempted first-degree murder charges after police say he tried to electrocute his father because his father wanted him to get a job.

According to an Ormond Beach Police report, John Knudsen waited for his father to get out of bed Thursday morning.

Knudsen's father, 81 years old and with the same name as his son, told police his son waited for him to go to the bathroom, then confronted him with an electrical cord plugged into the wall socket on one end and open wires on the other.

The father told police his son then intentionally pressed the two open ends of the wire to his father's chest, electrocuting him with the alleged threat to stop his heart.

The older Knudsen told police he recently changed his will to benefit his son.

The younger Knudsen was also was charged with aggravated battery on a person older than 65 years old and aggravated abuse of an elderly and disabled adult.

He is being held on no bond.
