Some residents in Osceola County are stepping up to help those in need this holiday season.

It’s the Kissimmee Utility Authority’s round-up program.

The program gathers contributions for those in need by rounding up customer’s monthly bills to the next dollar. For example, instead of paying $40.25, customers pay $41. Those extra 75 cents go to individuals and families in Kissimmee facing a temporary financial crisis.

As of this week, more than 1,300 customers have signed up. Many residents like Richard Ramos, seem to appreciate the meaning behind the program.

“I think it’s great to give back to the community. I think it’s something that we can all help each other out. It’s one step towards resolving a lot of issues that we have in our community, so I think that’s a great thing,” Ramos said.

Customers wishing to participate in this program can opt to have their bills automatically rounded up each month or make a one-time donation.
