Two men are under arrest in Marion County in connection with the murder of a woman at an Escambia County motel.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said that on Sunday morning, an employee at the Quality Inn on New Warrington Road found the body of 57-year-old Lisa Barberi.

Investigators began a homicide investigation, and the medical examiner’s office determined Barberi died from strangulation.

Deputies said they determined that the two suspects fled the area.

On Monday, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was asked by Escambia deputies to respond to 5249 SE 106th Lane in Belleview to secure a residence, where the suspects were thought to be.

Marion deputies went to the home and arrested 34-year-old Aaron Lee Durning. Deputies said the other suspect, 28-year-old Daniel Lee Durning, turned himself into the Marion County Jail on Monday evening.

Both have been charged with first-degree premeditated murder and will be taken back to Escambia County.

“I am so proud of our patrol deputies and our Major Crimes detectives for their assistance to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office during this major investigation,” Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair said in a statement. “Due to the swift action and partnership by both agencies, these dangerous suspects were taken off our streets. We are proud to work side-by-side with other law enforcement agencies to not only protect our own community but the state of Florida.”
