A true animal lover saved the day after spotting a wayward kitten on I-95 in Brevard County, huddled by the median barrier between the northbound and southbound lanes.

Theresa Clifton, executive director of the Brevard Humane Society, said she saw the 4-month-old feline Monday afternoon on the stretch of the interstate between State Road 520 and Fiske Boulevard, and stopped to pick up the kitten.

Despite being caught in a high-traffic area, the kitten was not seriously hurt, only suffering some scratches, burns on the bottom of its paws, and some road rash.

But the question remains: How did it get there? There are no homes near the interstate in that area. It's thought someone dumped it.

The kitten, which the Humane Society has named "Casey," is now in their care at the Cocoa facility and will be ready for adoption next week.
