Nine residents of a two-story, multifamily condominium complex were displaced Wednesday night after a fire broke out in the attic area of one of the units.

At 11:27 p.m., dispatchers at the Marion County Public Safety Communications department received an emergency call from the resident of the condo along Midway Drive in Ocala. The caller advised smoke and flames were visible and quickly spreading throughout the attic.

Heavy smoke was showing from the second floor when Marion County Fire Rescue crews arrived at the scene, officials said.

Crews completed a primary search and evacuated the residents in all eight units of the building.

The fire was deemed to be contained at 11:50 p.m., officials said. Twenty-three firefighters and 10 units responded to the fire.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
