With an uptick in train-versus-vehicle crashes, Lake Mary police and SunRail are teaming up to help inform drivers of what they can and can’t do around railroad crossings.

Over the last few months, there have been a handful of crashes involving vehicles and trains. Lake Mary police officers are teaming up with SunRail to remind motorists of the importance of stopping before the crossing, not on the tracks.

Wednesday will be used as an informational day. On Thursday, police will be out on the streets from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be issuing tickets for drivers who aren’t abiding by the law.

If you are stopped on the tracks or even too close to the tracks, you could face a $206 ticket.
