Fellow firefighters and colleagues spent Monday remembering a Seminole County firefighter who died in a violent motorcycle crash in Apopka.

The crash happened Sunday morning on the 2200 block of Haas Road, killing Diana Gilboy, who worked for the fire department in Casselberry for 10 years as a firefighter and paramedic.

Gilboy and her passenger, 34-year-old Sarah Post, of Sanford, died Sunday when Gilboy's motorcycle slammed into the side of a pickup truck.

The pickup was headed west on Haas Road, and a passenger in the pickup said the motorcycle was in the truck's blind spot as the truck was making a left turn.

Gilboy was a married mother of two who had recently started working for the Seminole County Fire Department after its merger with Casselberry's fire department last week.

Gilboy's longtime co-workers said she was always happy and a joy to work with. They said her life was cut short too quickly, and called the crash a tragedy that hit the tightly-bonded fire department especially hard.

"We're just very saddened over the situation, and we're, I think, going to see that it will have a lasting impact on a lot of people for a long time," said Seminole County Assistant Fire Chief Donald Harkins.

Investigators said it was too early to tell if the driver of the truck would face any charges in the crash.

Funeral plans for Gilboy were pending as of Monday, her colleagues said.
