A teenage boy was bit by a shark while surfing at New Smyrna Beach Sunday morning.

Volusia County Beach Patrol says the 14-year-old from Vero Beach was with four friends near the Beach Avenue approach when a four to five foot black tip shark bit his hand and possibly his arm.

Beach patrol said the teen has numerous lacerations and was transported to Halifax Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
