The city of Palm Coast is celebrating its birthday and part of that celebration includes moving its city hall, again.

Laura Rodriguez arrived at the old city hall offices inside a strip mall only to see a sign indicating Palm Coast City Hall had moved to its new location.

"I want to pay my bill," said Laura Rodriguez.

Palm Coast city hall made its move to the Town Centre area, which they hope will one day become downtown Palm Coast.

"This is our sixth location," said Palm Coast spokesperson Cindi Lane.

To understand Rodriguez's confusion, you have to look at Palm Coast's city hall history. City Hall has moved six times since it was incorporated in 1999.

Before being inside the strip mall, city hall was in a two-story building near US 1, occupying the entire building.

City leaders turned that building over to Palm Coast Data to keep jobs in the area.

"We bought it, we paid cash this time," Lane said regarding whether the city will stay in this new building for a while.

The price tag for the brand new, state-of-the-art facility was $9.15 million, paid for with money from reserve permit fees, general funding and redevelopment dollars.

Workers were putting the finishing touches on city hall offices and meeting rooms before its grand opening on Monday. That's also the same day that city council will hold its first official meeting inside their new home.

Even though the new city hall is not officially open, they are open for business and getting rave reviews.

"You don't have all the parking set in from the strip mall and all that. So it's more secluded away from everything. It gives you more focus on what people are actually going in there for," said Grant Holnage, a roofer getting permits.

"I believe it’s in the heart of everything. Yeah, it's not a problem coming out here," said Tyle Ford, who was getting a permit for his dog.
