A man from The Villages was killed when his car crashed with a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Louis Branch, 90, of The Villages, was traveling south on Southeast 115 Avenue and proceeded to make a U-turn on the north side of County Road 25. Troopers said that as Branch made the U-turn, he drove into the path of a tractor-trailer driven by 46-year-old Harold McNeal, of Ocala.
Troopers said McNeal was unable to stop and swerved to the left while locking the brakes and skidded through the intersection and struck the left side of Branch's vehicle.
Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder.
Branch was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his car, Lu-Ann Branch, 54, of Vashon, Washington, was seriously injured.
McNeal sustained minor injuries.
