A woman who investigators said was a victim of a human trafficking case in Orange County claims she was forced to make hundreds of dollars each day or she faced physical abuse and was threatened with power tools.

Jose Vencente "Chico" Alvarez, Tiffany Belizaire and Rodney Conrad Alexander were all arrested and charged with human trafficking, directing purpose of prostitution and kidnapping following an investigation by Metro Bureau of Investigation that began in October.

"Unfortunately, we are seeing a lot of the same characteristics in this particular one and many other ones that we investigate," said Larry Swieg, director of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation. "A lot of times, young females end up on the street either because of addiction or abuse."

The number of human trafficking cases in Central Florida has risen from seven in 2012 to 38 in 2014.

According to an arrest affidavit, the three people, as well as the alleged victim, were squatting at a vacant home at 635 Flagler Drive, in Orlando.

The report states the victim "had a quote to make (between) $400 and $600 each day. All of the money she earned through prostitution went to Alexander and Belizaire."

Ads for the woman's services were even placed on area websites showcasing escorts for hire.

The victim told investigators she would be punished when she didn't come home with enough money — sometimes making $50. She would be tied up in the closet with bed sheets and a dog leash. She was threatened with power tools, she said.

Alfredo Olivares, who is the real estate agent for the vacant home, said he had no idea what was happening inside the home or that squatters were even staying there.

"It's a surprise," Olivares said. "This is a good neighborhood. I sell a couple houses here. It's very, very weird."

The woman was only able to escape when one of the alleged accomplices became nervous and refused to participate.

"Rodney tied me up ... he used (a) dog leash and bed sheets," the victim states in the arrest affidavit. "When he talked about tying Chico up, Chico jumped the fence and ran. He got the police."

Investigators believe there is only one victim in this case, but they are encouraging any others who were involved to come forward.

Alvarez, Belizaire and Alexander remained behind bars Friday night in the Orange County Jail on $105,000 bond.
