Every Monday, News 13 brings you Everyday Heroes, in which we profile a Central Floridian who has gone above and beyond to help others in our community.

The 52 men, women and children selected as Everyday Heroes in 2014 will be honored at a special Salute to Everyday Heroes Luncheon in Orlando in March.

Of those 52, six have been nominated for News 13's Viewers' Choice Everyday Hero.

The nominees for Viewers' Choice Hero come from all walks of life, but they all have taken steps to make their community a better place to live:

  • Octavius "Ocky" Clark, dean of students at Winter Springs High School and a former Florida State All-American, walked for 250 miles, from Winter Springs to Tallahassee, to raise money for student athletes as part of his school's first ever "Strides for Students" campaign.

  • Jules Colombino, of Orlando, is the founder of Rebuild Globally, a nonprofit organization in Haiti that trains and employs vulnerable people in the earthquake-ravaged nation. Rebuild's employees create handmade sandals out of recycled tires.

  • Sara Flatow, a Hollywood producer who grew up in Orlando, crowdsourced funds for Marching Beyond Halftime, a documentary project featuring the Lake Brantley High School Patriot Band, as well as people from all walks of life who have been influenced by music education.

  • Jim and Rhonette Hukill, founders of the Winter Garden-based Lift Disability Network, have used their experience with disability to help families handle the challenge by working together with events like the 2014 Florida Breakaway in Leesburg.

  • Dawn and Sadie Veselka, a mother and daughter in Orlando, came up with the Body Check Journal, a way for parents to keep track of subtle changes in their children's lives, as part of young Sadie's treatment and therapy for her juvenile arthritis, which she's had since she was only 4.

  • Cheri & Ward Wells founded LoveyLoaves Sanctuary, an Orlando-based pet rescue for dogs with special needs. Their goal is to raise $500,000 to build a medical sanctuary for up to 100 dogs in South Carolina, and create a network to raise awareness for special needs pets.

Voting has ended as of 11:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015.
News 13 reserves the right to make the final selection in Viewers' Choice voting.

Tune in every Monday to meet a new Everyday Hero every week on News 13.
