Palm Coast's Fire Department has a new addition to the fleet, and it's not your normal "fire engine red."

The pumper was just delivered from South Dakota, sporting a new color scheme and logo.

Gone is the all red and in its place is "Palm Coast" blue, a color found throughout the city's logo and marketing materials.

Fire Chief Mike Beadle said his team looked around and saw other departments branching out from the all red and thought the splash of blue would help their engines stand out.

As older equipment is replaced over the coming years, they will also get the new paint job. However, Beadle said two newer ladder trucks, which will be in service for many years to come, will most likely be headed to the paint shop in the near future.

The chief also doesn't think the darker blue will be a safety problem either, since the new pumper still has lights, sirens and plenty of red. Just to be sure though, the blue paint is reflective.

As for the new logo, the department wanted to create a brand that branched off of the city's "Find Your Florida." To that end, they've adopted the phrase "Protecting Our Florida." It will be on all city fire equipment.
