There were some tense moments in Flagler County’s 911 operations center Tuesday as the county’s 911 system was down for nearly 30 minutes.

To make matters worse, the calls did not automatically forward to a backup, non-emergency line.

The county is undergoing a major system upgrade, which is scheduled to be completed Thursday.

“We were very fortunate that we had all of those systems in place,” said Emergency Services Director Kevin Guthrie. “The vendor was on site, we were on site, so it was very fortunate.”

Ten calls were missed during the outage.

Deputies were immediately sent to the three addresses where those calls originated, but there were not emergency situations.
