A four-month-old is dead and Brevard County investigators have questions for the man who was last seen with the child.

Palm Bay Police are looking for 24-year-old Joseph Lamay to question him about the death of four-month-old Lorenzo Hernandez.

Sherrif’s deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Pointe Apartments in Palm Bay after Lamay called 911 to report the baby unconscious and not breathing.

Hernandez was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“It’s tragic and it’s difficult these types of cases, but you want to get to the root cause of what occurred,” said Palm Bay Police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez.  “We’re reviewing and working with the medical examiner and the state attorney’s office to determine what occurred – we still have a lot of questions that need to be answered.”

Investigators said Lamay was babysitting Lorenzo while the baby’s mother was at work. Lamay has not been seen since and is a person of interest in this case. An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday because of a probation violation.

“Yes, we need to talk to him. If anybody knows where he’s at, we would like to know and have them come forward,” said Martinez.

We found out Lamay does have a criminal past that includes domestic violence battery, theft and heroin possession.
