Something is growing on Central Florida’s sidewalks and the slippery problem is being blamed on the rainy weather.

Rick Stout was walking near his home when he almost fell down.

“I lost my balance, I didn’t fall, but I did slip,” Sout said.

The problem is mold and algae and it is covering some sidewalks.

Monday night you could see green mold on parts of East Harwood Street in Orlando's Lake Eola Heights neighborhood.

"I’ve never seen this much rain or mold growing on the sidewalks in the 39 years I’ve lived here,” Stout said.

We also traveled to the Bay Hill area in the western part of Orange County and you could see mold in sections of that neighborhood too.

One woman who did not want to be identified said, “It definitely doesn’t look that slippery, but it could be dangerous.”

Experts said all the rain we’ve been experiencing is making this problem worse.

Steven Palm is the Vice President of Jakes Pressure Washing.

“The amount of formation of mold and algae increases with the amount of moisture," Palm said. "And obviously in the last three to four weeks we’ve seen an increased amount of rain in Central Florida.”

He said business has increased between 30 and 40 percent over the last 60 days with people wanting help to get rid of mold on sidewalks, driveways and commercial property.

“It is worse in the last six months than it’s ever been,” Palm said.

Stout took his concerns to social media to warn his neighbors.

“I just put a cautionary tale for everyone who might be out walking or jogging,” Stout said.

He said he planned to take care of the problem near his home just as soon as the weather dries up.
